Godly Men

Godly men by definition are men of faith. Without faith it is impossible to please God. God shapes our lives through our faith.

When you see Daniel, He was a man of purpose, principle and purity. This is exactly how the world needs more people like him.

Daniel is one of the greatest men that ever lived. He is described as a "man greatly beloved" of God. (Daniel 10:11, 19); He served as "Prime Minister" both the Babylonian and Persian Empire under the 4 kings of Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar, Darious and Cyrus.

Temptations: Everybody faces temptations and Christians too.

Daniel, the poor exiled slave, was offending an opportunity to become a great man. It is extremely difficult to overcome a temptation that offers, "honor". Daniel, who ate slave's food, was offered the king's food. He knew that God had forbidden the Jews to eat certain animals and food that was offered to idols. When Daniel refused to eat meat from the king's table, it shows he knew the importance of obeying God's Law. But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way. (Daniel 1:8)

When did Daniel purpose in his heart?

In his youth, from his childhood, Daniel was devoted to God. Many young people are inclined to think that can put off obedience until adulthood. What you sow today, you will reap tomorrow. "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. (Proverb 1:7)

Why did Daniel purpose in his heart? It was not for personal gain, not from a fear of his king, or not from his habit or custom. He did it in obedience to God. Daniel relied upon God, and he particularly expressed it through prayer. Sometimes, our lack of victory is caused by our failure to believe God and Prayer.

What resulted from Daniel purposing in his heart?

God blessed him, making him a ruler in Babylon. Not only that, he used Daniel's faithfulness as a testimony to the Babylonians. Daniel knew that he "Ought to Obey God rather than man. (Acts 5:29); The Babylonians tried to change Daniel's religion by changing his name to one which incorporated the names of a Babylonian god (Daniel 1:7) but Daniel had already purposed in his heart to obey his God (Daniel 1:8).

Every man of God needs to be a person of purpose, whereas a strong sense of purpose often breeds respects and admiration in others.

Matthew 6:33

As Jesus promised, this will guarantee God's favor toward us. "Seek first the Kingdom of God an His righteousness."!

Man of Principle

God also admires individuals who will stand by their principles and by their works (Psalms 15:1-5) Daniel was so grateful that God know him and that he knew the Lord. Such principle is the victory that overcomes the world.

Our Christian principles are our valuables. Everyone wants to control what they think, so that they can control what they become. The lesson we are to learn here is that, we should not give in to the principle values. Let me tell you men of God. One of the temptations that force you is alcohol. So many lives, careers and families have been ruined because of alcoholism. So many accidents happen while driving under the influences that end up killing or damaging. Another temptation in today's world is drugs. Another thing certain kinds of music - I'm talking about music that glorifies violence or that encourages immoral living or that uses God's name in vain.

A major temptation when you marry an unbeliever, they drag you down to their level instead of growing in God's principles.

Man of Principle

Dan 6:1-4,

He was faultless when it came to management of his business affairs. The bible filled with accounts of many godly men and woman who are worthy of our emulation. People who maintain purity in their dealings with others are often given positions of great responsibility and privilege, because they can be trusted to use them wisely.

Godly men should have a different purpose. Non-Christians men try to please themselves while Godly men seek to please God - "But seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness, and all those things will be given to you as well. (Matthew 6:33)

Godly men should have different priorities

Daniel knew that if he disobeyed God's laws, he not only grieved God and stumbled his friends but also that it would "defile him-self".

Sin leaves - scars on our souls and heart us more than physical hurts. He knew that one wrong decision could ruin the rest of his life.

Daniel 1:15-16

This tells us two things. First, the world notices when God's people are holy and different. The king's officials certainly noticed the difference in the lives of Daniel. Our lives are a testimony to God.

Second, think about the food that they had and water could make a discernible difference in appearance after obey 10 days. It was only by God's power and strength that Daniel and his 3 friend's lived while surrounded by a pagan and heathens culture.

We need Godly men. It is the life of discipleship of following the Lord Jesus day by day. The bible speaks of the godly man's "great gain." Be careful of anything that will hinder you from progressing spiritually and being champions of God. Godly character building is a life long process (Proverb 20:11) and it's the only thing that's truly great in a man (Proverb 37:16). In the development of Godly character, it is more important to know where you are going rather than to see how fast you can get there because Zeal without wisdom can cause you to lose God's way and His best for you. (Proverb 19:2)

We are often more concerned about our reputation which is what men think of us, than of Godly character. We allow God be the builder and the judge. Your heart is the seed of your character. We cannot just speak or read "godliness" but we must manifest it in deed. It is an act of love.

Dear men of God, this is your high calling to press on towards in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:14); You must seek to establish a close, intimate, personal relationship with the Lord. If you start seeking after God, to deeper and better your personal relationship you can be in a right way road to Godliness.
